    • An electrostatic precipitator has been a trustworthy device since the beginning of the 20th century. Its original purpose was to eliminate serious smoke nuisances but various zinc, copper, and lead manufacturers quickly found electric gas cleaning a cost saving method to get back valuable product carried
    out of the stacks from furnace operations. The use of an electrostatic
    precipitator in today's production methods are used predominantly
    by large power plants, cement plants, incinerators, and used for many
    boiler applications.

    An electrostatic precipitator eliminates microscopic oil smoke and coolant mist
    particles that are a serious hazard to employee health.
    An electrostatic precipitator has a 99% collection efficiency but does
    not function appropriately for flyash with a high electrical resistivity.
    The designer must also not allow unburned gas to enter the electrostatic
    precipitator since the gas could be ignited.
